My love affair with the German language began in a classroom in Wolverhampton, of all places.

 

I attended a language-specialist school, and I found the simple spelling and steady rules of German a welcome respite from French and Russian lessons! As a non-native speaker, I learned how to wind my anglophone brain around the rules of German, and dreamed of travels to Berlin's vibrant streets, Austria's snow-swept valleys and Switzerland's scenic railways.

Almost twenty years on, I am delighted to say that my German skills succeeded in opening those doors, and many more. Careers in sales, account management and corporate hospitality have all hinged on my language skills, and it is usually the first thing that interviewers highlight on my CV.

In recent years I translated my passion for German into educating others, and I relish the opportunity to share the tips, tricks and shortcuts I have built up across years of experience with learners. I truly believe that anybody can learn a language with a flexible and empathetic teacher, and it is an opportunity that every individual deserves.

 

At the very heart of language learning is growth, and it is in this spirit that I founded Germanate. For a business, growth can mean expanding a customer base, improving client relations and gaining access to global markets.
